Oktoberfest and where to celebrate it in Singapore!

Hello everybody! It is the month of October and with that Oktoberfest looms over us. For those who do not know what Oktoberfest is, it is the world’s largest funfair that is held in Munich, Germany. The festival was first celebrated when Crown Prince Ludwig, later to become King Ludwig I, was married to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen on October 12, 1810. With its culture and festivities, it is no wonder that the Bavarian event is being celebrated all around the globe yearly. Singapore is no exception.

With the backstory out of the way, we can finally talk about the places you can go to for a good Oktoberfest experience right here in Singapore.

1. Oktoberfest Asia 2014
The closest thing you will get to the real fair in Munich. After a successful run last year, Oktoberfest Asia is back to provide Singapore with the atmosphere and experience I can expect from the Oktoberfest in Munich. With its array of authentic Bavarian beers and delicacies, a true blue Munchen band coupled with the decorations, it is like celebrating the original Oktoberfest right here in Singapore.

Oktoberfest Asia is happening 9-10 Oct from 5pm and 11 Oct 2014 from 3pm, at Marina at Keppel Bay, 2 Keppel Bay Vista, Singapore 098382. For more information and tickets, visit their website at http://www.oktoberfestasia.com/

2. Clarke Quay
If you are Singaporean, you would know that Clarke Quay is a place to go to for a party. The whole of Clarke Quay will be organising an Oktoberfest celebration of their own with Erdinger beer, mouth watering German food as well as fun and activities. Party goers would do well not to miss such an occasion. Did I mention that admission is free?

Oktoberfest 2014 at Clarke Quay is happening 10-11 Oct 2014, 7pm-11pm, at Clarke Quay Central, Fountain Square. For more information, visit their website at http://www.clarkequay.com.sg/specials/cq/oktoberfest/

3. Brotzeit
Known as the place of all things German in Singapore, Brotzeit provides you with the option of a more laid back Oktoberfest. They have their usual signature pork knuckles and sausage platters with Oktoberfest beers. There is also much fun to had with beer-related activities and a show band!

Brotzeit Oktobestfest is happening at Brotzeit Vivocity, #01-149 VivoCity, 1 Harbourfront Walk, Singapore 098585, on 9 Oct 7pm-11pm, 10 Oct 7pm-12am, 11 Oct 1pm-12am, 12 Oct 1pm-11pm. For more information, visit their website at http://www.brotzeit.co/promotions-vivo-city.html?&fo=vivocity

4. Tamarind Hill

Prefer a quiet Oktoberfest with intimate conversations over rowdy crowds? Then Tamarind Hill fits the bill. Pig out at Chef Wanthana’s special 5 course Aporkalypse menu which also comes with free flow of Tiger Beer.

Tamarind Hill is happening at 30 Labrador Villa Road, Singapore 119189. Open Mon-Sun 12-3pm, 6.30-10.30pm. – For more information, visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TamarindHillSG

5. Stuttgart Blackforest Boutique S-Cafe
For parents who cannot shake their kids off for the night, fear not because there is Stuttgart Blackforest Boutique to cater to your needs. Get into the Oktoberfest mood over there with free flow beer for the adults and free flow soda for the children. Not to mention delicious German food and also a German band for lively music!

Special Mention: Safra Mount Faber
For a tighter knit and closed event, you can head down to Safra Mount Faber for their Octobeerfest. As it says in the name, you get to enjoy good beer and food along with the performances of local bands and activities there.

Octobeerfest at Safra Mount Faber is happening 10 & 11 Oct 2014, 7pm-11pm. For more information, visit their event page at http://www.eventnook.com/event/octobeerfest/home

5 ways to celebrate Fathers’ Day & more parenting events

A son’s first hero, a daughter’s first love – fathers indeed. This Sunday 15 June, let us all gather our love, gratitude and immense respect for our first hero and first love to celebrate Father’s Day 2014. While we were all busy growing up, spending more time in school, at work or with our friends, we might have forgotten the one who was silently supporting us behind our back.

Here are 5 simple things you can do for/with your Super Dad this Father’s Day.

1. Whip up a meal for him

You do not need to be Gordon Ramsey or Martin Yan in the kitchen, just prepare a simple meal or dessert that your dad love it, and I am sure it will put a smile on his face. If you have no idea where you can start from, you can start googling for recipes or meat dishes could be the recipe you are looking for! Alternatively, you can choose to bring daddy dearest out for a meal to pamper him with his favourite cuisine or gourmet.

2. Catch a show/movie CBTDCheaper by the Dozen 2, a family comedy about a dad and his 12 children

Spend some quality time with your father by watching his favourite drama or movie with him, or you can be the one picking the show. Choose something hilarious for you and your dad to unwind and bond with one another through laughter. Create happy moments with him on this day especially if you are really busy at school or at work.

3. Have a game or two

You can sit down somewhere with your dad and have a few rounds of Chinese chess or English chess with him. Alternatively, if your family enjoy doing sports you can have a few rounds of racquet or ball games with him. This is a good opportunity for you and your dad to sweat it out despite busy schedule and to keep him fit and healthy.

4. Coffee or Tea? How about a brew?

Daddy dearest might need to relax and take his mind off his workload. You can plan to take him for a stroll at a park nearby or have a drink with him! Share your daily happenings with him over a cup of coffee or tea. You can also bring him to a brewery to have a drink or two. Your dad will be elated to hear about the new guy or girl you met at the bar last week!

5. Bring him out for a spa or massage session

Who says only women deserves to be pampered? Treat your dad to a rejuvenating and relaxing spa or massage session. Allow him to take his mind off any vexing matters momentarily and recharge.

Every dad is different in their own way, and the way every dad brings their children up would differ as well. But it is undeniable that their love for their children will ever fall behind. Our Dad’s almighty love granted us enormous strength to conquer the world. This Fathers’ Day, EventNook would like to wish all the fathers out there a very Happy Father’s Day! If you are planning any form of event to celebrate this occasion, check us out at EventNook.com. You can also sign up for upcoming parenting events here , to experience parenthood to the fullest!
